Quick Facts

Client: Oilfield Service Provider

Application: Cementing unit

Location: Multiple locations, U.S.

Product: Fuel Pro® 483

Engine: CAT C-13

Action

The customer was operating their cementing unit with a CAT-branded spin-on stage-1 with 10-micron filtration and a CAT-branded spin-on stage-2 with 4-micron filtration on twin-powered CAT C-13 (EPA T3) blender units. After a situational analysis, DAVCO Sales and Engineering recommended removing their existing stage-1 filter assembly and replacing it with a DAVCO Fuel Pro® fuel water separator with 10-micron filtration. Product size and space availability was initially a concern due to the small size of the engine housing.

The initial field trial was conducted with a smaller series Fuel Pro® product, which fell short of the customer’s desired service interval targets. DAVCO next installed a Fuel Pro® 483 for additional testing due to the larger (2x) media size and the availability of a 10-micron filter option. After successful evaluation in the field, results proved this was a more capable solution and the operator opted to move forward with retrofitting this segment of their fleet.

Results

Since the installation of the Fuel Pro® 483 as a stage-1 filter, the customer has consistently achieved their PM target of 500+ hours. They have since approved a retrofit plan for existing equipment in September 2024.

Benefits the operator has seen include:

  • Increased service intervals from 200 hours to 500+ hours
  • Aligned service intervals with PM cycle, reducing maintenance downtime costs
  • Reduced filter expenses

With the utilization of the Fuel Pro® 483, the oilfield service provider was able to decrease total downtime and increase engine protection, a true win-win.

Commercial Operator Sees Improved Performance from DAVCO Sea Pro®

Situation

A commercial operator was upgrading their engines and decided to upgrade the fuel filtration system, as well. The test boat previously had three stages of filtration, utilizing a competitor’s product but the operator was looking for better contaminant and water removal and longer service intervals. The operator contacted DAVCO requesting to test the Sea Pro® line of fuel filters and water separators.

Quick Facts

Client: Operator

Application: Pushboat

Location: New Orleans, LA

Product: Sea Pro® Dual Tall

Action

DAVCO and the operator conducted a test installation utilizing a Sea Pro® Dual Tall on the port engine and the existing competitor processor on the starboard engine. After running multiple tests over a few months, the data demonstrated that the Sea Pro® extended service intervals up to four times longer than the competitive filtration system.

Based on these results, the operator chose the DAVCO Sea Pro® Dual Tall with NanoNet media allowing for very fine filtration without added restriction.

The Sea Pro® Dual Tall can extend service intervals up to four times longer than competitive products. It’s also designed to meet all certifications and requirements for commercial marine vessels, including ABS approval.

Results

The Sea Pro® Dual Tall extended service intervals from 250 hours to more than 1,000 hours*.

Other benefits the operator experienced, include:

  • Decreased the total number of filters required for operation from six to two
  • Extended filter life up to 1,000 hours or more
  • Reduced inconsistencies in fleet maintenance and machine downtime
  • Improved engine performance and fuel efficiency due to decreased restriction
  • Better protected fuel pumps and injectors

The commercial operator was able to extend filter life and performance while maintaining a high level of filtration quality. Due to these results and benefits, the operator chose to install the Sea Pro® Dual Tall on other vessels in their fleet, further decreasing total downtime and increasing productivity.

Situation

An oil sands mine operator in Alberta, Canada was experiencing premature fuel filter plugging. They were seeking added protection from injector issues and potential replacement expenses. They also suspected they were experiencing water contamination in their fuel.

Quick Facts

Client: Oil Sands Mine

Application: Haul Truck

Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada

Product: Industrial Pro® 692 Tall Dual

Action

Working with the operator, DAVCO initially installed a smaller Industrial Pro® unit. The mine operator saw an increase in their service intervals from 500 to 750 hours with no premature plugging. Seeing the full potential of the service hour increase, DAVCO then installed an Industrial Pro® 692 Tall Dual unit, doubling the maximum fuel flow rate and fuel capacity.

The Industrial Pro® unit in this application featured DAVCO’s Seeing is Believing® clear top bowl and a clear bottom bowl. This patented clear top bowl allows the mine to inspect their fuel for contamination. The clear bottom bowl helps address the operators’ concern about water contamination, providing an easy line of sight to their fuel quality, allowing them to quickly react to water contaminated fuel.

Results

The operator experienced positive results on continued haul truck tests and is reaching and exceeding 1,000-hour service intervals. The mine retrofitted their fleet of haul trucks to Industrial Pro® 692 Tall Dual units as well, further increasing engine protection and savings.

Other benefits they have experienced:

  • Doubled service intervals
  • Reduced maintenance costs and filter expenses
  • Reduced wear and tear on injectors

Based on industry standard service intervals and filter costs, installing an Industrial Pro® 692 Tall Dual can help mine operators reduce maintenance costs.

Situation

Data centers require constant power to keep their IT infrastructure operational, and some data centers rely on generators to provide that source of power. For one data center, that meant every time one of their generators needed servicing, the entire unit had to be shut off, disconnecting power to the computers. Recently, a data center received a bad batch of fuel causing the Stage 1 fuel filter to plug prematurely. In order to service the unit, the center had to shut down their generator to replace the filter. Without an operational generator, power to their computers was also disconnected, impacting their operations. Unfortunately, inconsistency in fuel quality is common. Due to this situation, it is important for data centers to recognize they needed both proper fuel filtration in addition to the ability to service the generator without disconnecting power.

Quick Facts

Client: Technology Center

Application: Large Data Center

Location: Southeastern U.S.

Product: Industrial Pro® Tall Duplex

Engine: Cummins QSK60 Tier 2

Action

The data center decided to explore other filtration solutions and came across the DAVCO Industrial Pro® series. When a bad batch of fuel enters, they can isolate the filter that is plugged and continue to run the generator while servicing. Instead of relying on a single filter, the duplex version contains two filters that feature advanced filter media, providing extra protection from dirty fuel.

Results

The long-term benefits of changing to the duplex filter system centered around the isolation valves. These valves allowed the isolation of the filters for servicing without having to shut the unit down. Upgrading to the Industrial Pro® series extended service intervals to 1000 hours and beyond while providing extra protection from advanced filter media.

Benefits of Upgrading to DAVCO’s Industrial Pro® Series:

  • Peace of mind from not losing power while changing out the fuel water separator elements
  • Extended service intervals: 2x as long as previous filters
  • Extra Protection against fuel contaminants through advanced filter media
