Marine Fuel Water Separators – Sea Pro® Series
Sea Pro® products, setting a new standard in marine fuel filtration.
✓ ISO 14001 for Environmental Management
|
✓ IATF 16949 for Quality Management
The Sea Pro® series is DAVCO’s dedicated line of diesel fuel filtration and water separation systems for marine vessels. Like the rest of DAVCO’s heavy-duty product lines, Sea Pro® units are engineered for harsh operating environments and built to protect engines and keep vessels running. Each Sea Pro® marine unit removes water, sludge, microbial growth, and particulates from fuel before it reaches injectors, pumps, and other components that fail early when fuel quality drops.
Sea Pro® was designed specifically to help commercial vessels meet American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certification, which is overseen by the U.S. Coast Guard. DAVCO holds ABS certification for the Sea Pro® line. The series serves operators and maintenance teams across inland and ocean-going fleets, including fleet maintenance directors, port engineers, and parts managers who need long service intervals and a filter change that does not pull a vessel out of service.
Extends service intervals up to 1,000 hours or beyond
EIP Interface protects essential equipment
Eliminates the need for three separate stages of fuel filtration
No loss prime, inlet check valve assembly maintains prime after service
Extend water drain-off interval with a large water holding capacity
Built for ABS Compliance and the Marine Environment
Marine fuel filtration carries many requirements that on-highway filtration does not. A marine system needs a fully enclosed housing for fire protection. ABS certification adds stringent heat testing and other requirements on top of that.
Running a standard fuel water separator on a vessel that requires ABS approval is not permitted. Due to the enclosed, unventilated space that an engine in a marine vessel operates in, a fuel leak can present greater fire risks.

Marine Fuel Challenges the Sea Pro® Addresses

Fuel quality in marine environments is often poor. Commercial vessel fuel passes through more hands before it reaches the tank than on-highway fuel does, and marine operations frequently run lower-grade fuel. DAVCO has seen fuel fully contaminated with algae and growth return to near-normal condition after cycling through a Sea Pro® filter.
The Sea Pro® marine fuel water separator addresses contaminants and water at levels far greater than those seen in other applications like on-highway vehicles:
- Water intrusion – The single biggest factor, driven by excess condensation in vessel tanks and constant seawater ingress
- Microbial growth – Algae and biological contamination that thrives in marine fuel systems
- Sediment and sludge – Routine in marine service and damaging to injectors and pumps
- Particulates – Filtered out before it can reach downstream engine components
As a marine fuel filter and water separator in one, the Sea Pro® filtration system is built to handle it all, with a large water-holding capacity that extends the interval between drain-offs.
Sea Pro® Models and Specifications
The Sea Pro® line is a range of marine fuel filters spanning four configurations sized by maximum fuel flow. DAVCO also offers optional features to build configurations to a customer’s specific needs.
| Model | Max Fuel Flow | Engine Displacement | Configuration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sea Pro® 881 Short Single | 360 gal/hr | 5–19 L | Single |
| Sea Pro® 891 Tall Single | 540 gal/hr | 20–38 L | Single |
| Sea Pro® 882 Short Duplex | 720 gal/hr | 38 L+ | Duplex |
| Sea Pro® 892 Tall Duplex | 1,080 gal/hr | 38 L+ | Duplex |
There is no one-size-fits-all marine fuel water separator. DAVCO’s technical sales team works with customers to select the right unit based on fuel flow requirements and target service intervals. A Short Single (881) covers many applications, but operators who want longer intervals between service may move to a Tall Single (891) for its greater filter capacity. The duplex units (882 and 892) suit vessels that need continuous engine operation during filter changes and offer higher fuel flow rates.
Duplex Filter Changes Without Shutting Down
The duplex models let an operator change a filter on a running engine. Here’s how it works:
Key insight: This is a safety factor as much as a convenience. If a vessel hits a fuel problem underway, the engine does not have to be shut down to address it.
Service Intervals and Vessel Uptime
Downtime is the biggest pain point marine operators report before switching to Sea Pro®. A vessel sitting idle is expensive, and because commercial vessels run multiple engines – up to three propulsion engines plus two to three auxiliary engines – they can see two to three times the downtime of an on-highway application.
Case Study: Commercial Operator Sees Improved Performance with DAVCO Sea Pro® documents a push boat application that went from a 250-hour service interval to 1,000 hours.
Vessels That Run the Sea Pro®
Sea Pro® units fit any commercial diesel vessel that requires ABS approval. DAVCO’s priority market is brown water – inland marine operations on the Great Lakes and inland rivers, including commercial barges, tugboats, push boats, and river commercial vessels. The blue water segment, made up of ocean-going vessels and commercial fishing fleets, is the secondary market that can benefit from Sea Pro® units.
Vessel types served include:
- Tankers, container ships, and bulk and cargo carriers
- Vehicle carriers and LNG carriers
- Towing vessels and barges of all kinds
- Offshore drilling units (MODUs) and offshore supply vessels (OSVs)
- Naval ships, larger yachts, and inland waterway vessels
Beyond Marine: Underground Mining
The same corrosion-resistant steel body that makes the Sea Pro® compliant for marine service also makes it a fit for underground mining. Mining environments are hard on equipment and kicked-up rock can damage the isoplast covers used on other DAVCO product lines. The Sea Pro® steel construction stands up to those conditions, so operators can run it where a standard unit would be at risk. Learn more about DAVCO fuel filtration for mining.

“Boyle Transportation started specifying the DAVCO 382 Fuel Pro Filter on Detroit Diesel, Series 60 motors in Freightliner, Century Class tractors in 2001. At that time, water was the primary concern in any fuel injection system. As emission standards changed and injection pressures increased substantially, micron ratings dropped dramatically, the DAVCO Fuel Pro became the primary filter preventing water and microscopic particles from damaging the ever smaller passages in the modern day common rail fuel injection system.”
