Built for Medium-Duty Diesel Filtration

Medium-duty engines don’t face the same fuel-flow demands or have the same space available as a Class 8 tractor.

The Diesel Pro® was engineered specifically for medium-duty diesel filtration, with a smaller footprint than DAVCO’s Fuel Pro® line and a 60 GPH flow rate (the heavy-duty Fuel Pro® runs 180 GPH). The result is a diesel fuel filter housing that fits where larger units can’t, without overshooting the engine’s actual fuel demand.

Diesel Pro® Specs, Models, and Compatibility

DAVCO offers two primary Diesel Pro® models for medium-duty fleets. Both are built on the same filtration platform, both are compatible with biodiesel blends, and both carry the same Seeing Is Believing® clear cover and pre-heat options.

Diesel Pro® 243

The Diesel Pro® 243 combines fuel filtration, fuel/water separation, and fuel filter pre-heating into a single compact diesel fuel filter housing built for medium duty buses, trucks, refrigeration units, and engines applications. Learn more about the Diesel Pro® 243.

Diesel Pro® 245

The Diesel Pro® 245 carries the same fuel filtration, water separation, and pre-heating capabilities as the 243, in an alternate configuration that matches different mounting and routing requirements across medium-duty platforms. Diesel Pro® Applications: Who Uses It and Why

The Diesel Pro® serves a wide range of medium-duty fleets, each with different uptime pressures and fuel-quality challenges. Below are the segments where the Diesel Pro® is most often specified, and what fleet managers can gain in each application.

Medium Duty Delivery and Vocational Trucks

Medium duty trucks are the single largest segment for the Diesel Pro®, and vehicles include delivery fleets, utility trucks, landscaping rigs, tow trucks, and vocational chassis.

All of these vehicles benefit from the same particulate filtration, water separation, and cold-weather pre-heat that protect heavier trucks – packaged in a commercial vehicle diesel filter sized for medium-duty applications. When installed, the Diesel Pro® becomes the primary filter and the existing OEM filter steps down to secondary duty, extending the life of both filters and adding a layer of protection the factory setup can’t deliver.

School Bus Fleets

Many school buses ship from the factory with a basic spin-on filter that offers no water separation, no visual diagnostics, and a closed canister that must be pulled to inspect.

The pre-heat option is a meaningful addition for districts in cold-weather geographies where gelling can mean cancelled routes and missed school days.

Municipal Buses and Transit Fleets

Municipal transit buses see the same fuel-quality variables as school buses, with even higher annual mileage and tighter uptime requirements. The Diesel Pro® serves as a bus diesel filter that gives transit maintenance shops the same water separation, pre-heat, and no-loss-prime serviceability available on heavy-duty equipment, all without the larger Fuel Pro® footprint. 

For municipalities specifying new vehicles or retrofitting existing fleets, the Diesel Pro® fits standard medium-duty mounting requirements across most chassis platforms.

Refrigerated Transport (Reefer Units)

On refrigerated trailers, the Diesel Pro® typically mounts in close proximity to the refrigeration unit on the cab rather than the truck engine itself. A second Diesel Pro® or Fuel Pro® usually handles the engine side.

Reefer fuel quality is critical: a clogged or water-contaminated filter on a refrigeration unit can mean spoiled freight and increased costs, not just a roadside breakdown. The clear cover and water-separation bowl let drivers and maintenance see filter conditions before it becomes a load loss.

Biodiesel and Bio-Blend Applications

Biodiesel is common across medium-duty fleets, and the issues mirror what heavy-duty operators face: different states mandate different bio-blends, fuel quality varies by region, and bio-blends typically hold more water than straight #2 diesel. The Diesel Pro® delivers a much higher level of water separation than a spin-on filter, which becomes the single biggest variable when biodiesel quality is inconsistent from one fuel stop to the next.

Why Diesel Pro® Is Preferable to OEM Spin-On Filters

Most medium-duty trucks leave the factory with an OEM primary filter, and many buses run a spin-on canister. When a fleet upgrades to the Diesel Pro®, the DAVCO unit becomes the primary filter, and the existing OEM filter becomes the secondary. The result is a layered diesel fuel filter water separator system the original setup couldn’t deliver.

In the medium duty space, DAVCO often replaces competitor units and even OEM-private-labeled units. The reasons fleets switch is consistent across applications, including aspects like:
